Mr. Chase discusses the risk of unvaccinated teachers in the classroom
The following is copied from the November 2, 2009, printed transcripts of the Legislative debate and discussion:
Mr. Chase (Calgary-Varsity Lib): … Now, the hon. Member for
Calgary-Glenmore and the hon. Member for Calgary-Buffalo both
talked about: where in the lineup do teachers fit? I’d like to offer a little
bit of a suggestion. I think that teachers probably fit in the line somewhere
after the children under age five, who are at risk, they probably fit
somewhere in the line after the people with immune deficiencies, and
they’re probably in that line standing beside policemen, firefighters, and
other emergency services.
Now, in terms of emergency individuals, just think what would
happen if the majority of teachers in a particular school came down
with the virus. That means that the majority of the children in those
schools would have to be sent home, which means that the majority
of the parents of those children would have to be at home looking
after them. You see the ripple effect… (1683)
